Description

Mexican Hat, Prairie Coneflower

Each plant bears 3-7 flower heads of yellow and red-brown blooms, drooping rays surrounding a long, red-brown central disk.

This sun-loving, native plant is easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained, rocky, or mildly poor soil but it also tolerates light shade. Additionally, Mexican Hats can handle drought, though they will benefit from occasional watering in dry weather which also prolongs their flowering season.

These vibrant flowers make an excellent choice for hot, dry areas!

Once mature, these Prairie Cone Flowers can be divided every 2-3 years, will attract butterflies, and even repel deer. This is great for pollinator habitats, enhancing the colors in your orchard or to give your windbreak your own flair.
