Forestry Merit Badge
Houston Gardens sponsored a Forestry Merit Badge workshop for the Boy Scouts on May 6th. The content for the merit badge included tree identification, lumber identification and usage, insect and disease problems, forestry careers, hazardous tree conditions and urban forestry census to mention a portion of the curriculum. The participants had to complete the required work book and turn it into the Scouts office for final approval before the merit badge is certified. The West Greeley Conservation District is anticipating holding the Forestry Merit Badge, along with other possible merit badges, next year as well. As a culminating event for the Boy Scouts, two troops participated in an overnight camp out at Houston Gardens. Approximately 24 Boy Scouts and their leaders took part in this inaugural event and WGCD is looking forward to continued activities with the Boy Scouts. If there are any other organizations that are interested in having WGCD offer an educational seminar, please contact the office and we will assist your group however is possible.
