WGCD Community BBQ at Houston Gardens

WGCD Board of Supervisors and Staff hosted our second annual Community BBQ at Houston Gardens on August 10. The BBQ is intended to bring together our district members and the community for an evening of education and entertainment. Our goal is to showcase our commitment to various types of conservation, natural resources, wildlife and various ag practices.
Our meal was provided by Rob Reeves and Becky Lawhead. We estimate they served 600 guests to delicious pulled pork sandwiches and homemade salads and cookies. We can’t thank them enough for their hard work!
We had everything from a petting zoo set up by GW FFA, a mobile bug zoo from the CSU Gillette Entomology Group, a dairy calf from Tucker Dairy and ice cream donated by the Western Dairy Association, snakes and pelts from the PLC, various groups from the City of Greeley were present to share different projects on going in the community and programs available, WC Weeds was on hand to help answer questions about noxious weeds, Colorado Foundation for Ag was present and had some fun interactive games for kids, the NRCS had a soil tunnel, Sonrise Honey had information about bees and the significance of their role in pollination and many many more.
Our list of partners grew tremendously! We had almost twenty partners present representing their part in various aspects of conservation and conservation education. I would like to take the opportunity to recognize them.

A big thank you goes out to Greeley West FFA for helping us set up and clean up for the event. Scout Troop 247 was on hand to help guests find parking and direct them to the location.
